In Memoriam

Michael T. Fries, AIA

Michael Fries, President and Founder of FM GROUP INC, had over 36 years of experience in all project phases and responsibilities in the Design and Environmental Consulting fields. He completed projects ranging from building remodel/renovations for governmental agencies, new restaurants, hotels, tenant improvements and mixed-use commercial. His clients include Lend Lease Privatization of Army Lodging, Project Delivery Group, and governmental agencies including the State of Arizona, Maricopa County, and City of Phoenix, City of Mesa, Maricopa Community Colleges, and the City of Show Low, His breadth of knowledge and technical expertise were recognized in 2005 when he was appointed to the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, Enforcement Advisory Committee which he remained on until he passed in 2021. He was also President of the Rio Salado AIA in 1997 and on its Board of Directors from 1993 to 1998, Following that he was on the Rio Salado AIA Foundation Board of Directors from 1998 to 2021. He has also served on the ASU School of Architecture Professional Advisory Council, City of Phoenix Mayor’s Environmental Awards Committee, National Board of Directors of Professional Service Managers Association (PSMA), and the City of Phoenix Development Services Advisory Board.

Prior to starting FM GROUP INC, Michael worked for Law Engineering Company 1990-95, Architecture One LTD. 1988-90, Nelson-Kubicek Architects 1987-88 and Black & Veatch Engineers and Architects 1986-87.

He taught at ASU as a Faculty Associate in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design and at Scottsdale Community College. He was a registered Architect in 40 states and was NCARB certified.
